Curriculum Outline Spring Term 2010: Year 5

English:
Continue development of story writing skills. How to create word banks/settings which may be used in a variety of situations. Study a range of texts including stories from other cultures. CE practise and how to tackle comprehension papers. Persuasive writing – texts key phrases and techniques and letter writing. Punctuation to include introducion of apostrophe for possession.

Maths:
Complete study of perimeter and area. Decimal fractions and simple problem solving. Percentages. Telling the time and reading timetables. Using a protractor. Problem solving with data – range, mean, median, mode. Conversion graphs. Ratio and proportion, Position and direction.

Science:
All about forces. The special force of gravity. Forces in water. Newton meters. Falling spinners. How we see things. Eyes and reflection. Shadows. Our earth and solar system. Movement of heavenly bodies.

ICT:
Touch typing – create labels and addresses- recreate classroom projects- right click mouse-menu-recap last term’s work.

Geography:
Transport and responsible ways of travelling with evaluation of its environmental impact.

French:
Town and shopping. Meals – ordering in a restaurant. Table laying. Pets. Transport. Numbers. Story comprehension.

RE/PSHE:
Charities and their work. Healthy eating and food advertising.

Music:
Planning and composing. Rehearsal and performance. Class orchestra.

Art:
Art and music. Drawing and painting. Still life. Clay. Papier mache 3D.

PE:
Rounders and tennis.
