ACCLAIMED ENGLISH ACTOR VISITS CONIFERS SCHOOL
Only a few days into the new summer term, Mrs Jennie Peel, Headmistress, was delighted to welcome the internationally acclaimed and locally based English actor, Hugh Bonneville, to Conifers School on Friday 25th April for a day of reading with the children.
Hugh shot to fame as “Bernie” in the hugely successful 1999 romantic comedy film, “Notting Hill”, which starred Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, and now has a long list of credits to his name in TV, film and theatre (www.hughbonneville.co.uk). This year he is appearing in three features films and three TV programmes, in addition to last Sunday’s (27th April) BBC1 drama, “Miss Austen Regrets”, in which he played the Rev Brook Bridges who ‘set Jane’s (Austen) heart aflutter’.
Hugh spent his day at Conifers reading to each of the year groups from his own selection of children’s poetry, verse and stories and fielded numerous questions about life as an actor.
Commented Mrs Peel, “We were all thrilled that Hugh could join us at school and would like to thank him for a truly inspiring day. The children were all fascinated to meet him and as an ex Conifers parent and current ‘Friend of Conifers’, we hope he may be able to join us again in the near future. I would also like to highlight some more dates this term for our popular new “Saturday Club” - 17th May, 7th June and 14th June, between 10am-12noon. The Club is free and open to all local children aged 3-11 to attend and they will be given the chance to participate in a variety of different activities including sport, music, art and science. As numbers are limited, please can parents contact the school beforehand to pre-register their children.
We are also holding the first ever “Conifers’ Sports Camp” during the half-term holiday week on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29th May. Any parents interested in their children attending and joining in the various sports on offer, please telephone school for details and prices. Again, numbers will be limited so please get in contact quickly to avoid disappointment.” |
