SPORT

Promoting teamwork, fitness, and resilience through Sport

Although a small Prep school, Conifers’ pupils still have many opportunities to practice and compete regularly, enjoying many sports and a good amount of physical exercise. Our sport programme offers pupils up to 6 hours of PE and Games per week. In addition, our co-curricular programme adds further variety with a range of sport related after school clubs.

The chance for each pupil to play sport is important in their development both socially and physically. Specialist teaching develops both individual and team skills, promotes teamwork, health & fitness and resilience. Every child, from emerging young athletes to those honing their elite skills will develop these competencies during their time with us.

Our PE curriculum develops pupils’ physical movement and core skills, as well as working on their fitness. All pupils from Reception upwards have weekly swimming lessons at our local leisure centre included in their PE timetable.

We also organise inter-house competitions in cross country, netball, tennis and rounders in addition to annual school sports day.

For pupils who are at an elite level in sport we offer a scholarship programme which includes a specialist mentor as well as additional strength and conditioning training.

Our sports fields and tennis court are constantly in use and every week pupils from Year 3 and up each represent the school in a team. From Year 2, pupils have the occasional fixture to build their confidence in preparation for a full fixtures programme the following year. As well as our fixtures programme Conifers also hosts a number of inter-school tournaments and participates in national level competitions.

The sports on offer at Conifers includes swimming, gymnastics, rugby, football, tennis, rounders, cricket, golf, netball and hockey. All are taught during curriculum time with many being offered additionally as co-curricular clubs for our sporting enthusiasts to enjoy their favourite sport all year-round.

An enjoyment of sport forms the basis for many lessons in life as well as underpinning our commitment to healthy living and a love of the great outdoors.
