MEET THE GOVERNORS
Mrs. Daphne Hanbury, BA, FRGS
Daphne graduated from Hollins College, Virginia in 1979 and started a property development company in the mid 80’s in the UK before being recruited to join the last Royal Geographical Society’s expedition to the rainforests of Brazil in 1985. She later worked for the Expedition Advisory Centre advising students, geographers and explorers.
Her three children and husband all attended Conifers and she was a member of the parents committee during their tenure.
Currently, she assists in the property development and management of Hill Ash Estate along with her husband, Nigel, and is the West Sussex Patron for Marie Curie. She joined the governing board in 2010 and has been appointed Chair from September 2018.
She is a painter and conservationist.
Mr. Paul Crisell
Paul Crisell is Deputy Head at Barrow Hills School, Witley, a preparatory school for girls and boys aged 2-13. He is the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Head of Religious Studies and helps out in the games department. Paul attended St George’s College, Weybridge, followed by St Mary’s University, Twickenham where he trained to be a primary school teacher .
In 2003, Paul completed a Master’s degree in Educational Management at Kingston University.
Paul is joined at Barrow Hills by his wife Livvy and his two teenage children, who have both been part of the Barrow Hills community.
Paul enjoys playing golf and is an avid rugby fan. He also enjoys being able to spend time with his family during the school holidays.
Miss Charlotte Faber
Charlotte was Headmistress of the prestigious Garden House Girls’ School in London from 2013-2017. During her time as Head, her priority was helping each and every girl on their journey towards reaching her potential, achieving excellent academic results to both London Day and boarding schools, with a focus along the way on happiness and kindness.
Charlotte is familiar with the early stages of education, and with the prep school world, especially the important transfer to secondary education at 11/13+ or, for some children, to a preparatory school at 7 or 8+.
Since leaving Garden House, Charlotte has become an education and regulatory advisor for other educational agencies. She works for RS Academics as a Senior Advisor on Headship appointments and is also a Governor at Heathfield School, Ascot, a girl’s 11-18 boarding and day school. She is closely affiliated with IAPS through their mentoring for new heads scheme.
Mrs. Annabel Gaynor
Annabel graduated from Durham University and joined the investment banking division of Schroders the same year. She worked at Schroders for 11 years, involved in both the corporate finance and the equity capital markets divisions, and was based first in London and then in Hong Kong. She left the bank in 1998 and moved to West Sussex where over time all of her four children attended Conifers School. She became a parish councillor for her local village, was involved in fund raising for Chase Children’s Hospice and the NSPCC as well as being involved on the Parents Committee of Conifers.
Annabel joined the governing board of Conifers in 2013. Currently, she manages a family property business and lighting design company.
Mrs. Carrie Marks
Carrie studied Physiotherapy at Nottingham University, where she graduated in 1997, going on to work in specialist rehabilitation and sports clinics in London and latterly Haslemere.
She grew up in Midhurst, going to Midhurst Convent and then Churcher's College, so is a local girl through and through!
Carrie returned to the area in 2008 getting married at Lurgashall church and having 3 children, who have all attended Conifers from nursery and are now in Reception, Form II and Form IV.
She is the chair of the Parents Committee and as such is a vital link between current parents and the governing board.
Mr. Malcolm Ring
Malcolm Ring lives at River and his three sons all went to Conifers. Now retired, he spent 50 years working in London as a solicitor (being the Managing Partner of his firm at one stage) plus 22 years in the Territorial Army with the Honourable Artillery Company, ending up as its Commanding Officer. His charity work includes being one of the founding trustees of Whizz Kidz and a trustee for the last 10 years the Meath Epilepsy Charity which is based in Godalming.
He has been a Governor of Conifers for a number of years and his specialities cover all aspects of Conifers property (including the possible move) plus being appointed as the school’s Data Protection Governor.
Mr. Mark Tracey
Mark Tracey has over 30 years of healthcare industry experience gained at Paribas Limited (1987-1991) and at Goldman Sachs (1992-2008) where he was Co-Head of Global Healthcare Equity Research. In December 2006 he became an Advisory Director in Healthcare Investment Banking before leaving GS to found Arkle Associates in October 2008.
Mark has a BA Honours degree in Business Studies from Portsmouth Polytechnic. He is married with two young daughters and lives in West Sussex. His interests includes horses, fine wine, running, microfinance/charities and Chelsea FC.
