The sports on offer at Conifers include swimming, gymnastics, rugby, football, tennis, rounders, cricket, netball and hockey, all taught during curriculum time, with many more being offered as additional co-curricular clubs for our sporting enthusiasts.
An enjoyment of sport forms the basis for many lessons in life as well as underpinning our commitment to healthy living and a love of the great outdoors.
The chance for every pupil to play sport is important in their development both socially and physically. Specialist teaching develops both individual and team skills, promotes teamwork, health and fitness and resilience and as such every child, from the most able of sportspersons to the those who are honing their skills, will develop these skillsets during their time with us.
Our PE curriculum develops pupils’ physical movement and core skills, as well as working on their fitness. Reception, Form I and Form II have weekly swimming lessons at Haselmere leisure centre, which is a 15 minute drive in the school bus, included in their PE timetable, whilst pupils in Form III and above have the option to continue swimming lessons or choose an alternative sport, with a breadth of activities to choose from.
We also organise inter-house competitions in cross country, netball, tennis and rounders in addition to annual school sports days.
For pupils who are at an elite level in sport we offer a scholarship programme for successful sport scholar applicants.
